HELMINTHES AND PROTOZOA OCCURRENCE IN RAW VEGETABLES PRODUCED IN UMUARAMA, PARANÁ STATE

Resumo

Vegetables are thc most important infection source or enteroparasites to human beings. The objcctive of thispaper was to cvaluace the vegctablc enteroparasitcs occurrence in vegetnbles from rural producers in Umuarama. ParanáState, Brazil. A hundred thirty tree samples werc cvaluatcd, and 25 ( 18.8%) wcre positive to the presence of parasites.Among those 8n 1(8.4%) rough lertuce. 6/33 ( I 8.2%) smooth lerruce. 8/18 (44.4%) wild chicory and 3/l J (27.3%) of chicOI)'.Analyses of samples have shown helmind1es in 23/1 33 (17.3%) and protoLoa in 61133 (4.5%). The major helminthes andprotozoa observed were Ascaris sp (9.7%), Ancilostomatidae (9.7%), E11terobi11s renuiculares ( 1.5%). Srro11gyloides sp(0.75%), Entamoeba sp (3.75%) and Giardia sp (0.75%). Enteroparasite vegctable contaminations observcd in the presentwork show either the necessity of government control to improve vegctablc sanitary conditions, and the importance to adoptcontrol medlods beforc consumption by lhe population.
