Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic condition with global prevalence and a significant increase in cases in recent years. Although education and support for self-management are essential to improving diabetes-related outcomes, barriers such as limited resources and restricted access hinder effective care. Tele-education emerges as a viable strategy to promote equity and empower individuals with DM by utilizing information and communication technologies to provide distance education. This study aimed to conduct a conceptual analysis of the term "Tele-education in diabetes mellitus" using Rodgers' evolutionary method. The research involved a literature review across databases including SciELO, LILACS, PubMed, Scopus, Google Scholar, CAPES, and BBDTD, analyzing antecedents, attributes, and consequences of the concept. The final sample comprised 10 studies published between 2003 and 2024. The results highlighted benefits such as improved self-care, glycemic control, cost reduction, and expanded access to health education, particularly in remote areas. The discussion emphasized that tele-education in diabetes promotes learning, empowerment, and quality of life by integrating new technologies into disease management. However, limitations related to the scarcity of studies underscore the need for further research. It is concluded that tele-education, by incorporating personalized and accessible strategies, represents an effective approach to comprehensive diabetes care.
